]]> The 41st annual Scandinavian Hjemkomst and Midwest Viking Festival June 22-23 is poised for a major celebration of Nordic cultures this year, from the myths of Valhalla through medieval Europe and our own American frontier, as 2018 marks an exciting development in our festival’s history. Commemorating the namesake of our museum, the Hjemkomst Viking ship, and looking to build on the success of last year’s 40th anniversary, we’re offering more fantastic Nordic culture and highlighting Scandinavian shipbuilding with our visiting master artist Jay Haavik, a world-class woodcarver and the lead on the Saga Oseberg ship replica currently housed in the Oslo Viking Ships Museum.

Inside we’ll be highlighting Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Saami, and Danish cultures, giving visitors the chance to walk through the North countries in just one building. Shoppers will delight in our Scandinavian Village, where we’re hosting vendors, educators, and entertainers sharing their stories and their wares.
